THE NAPOLEONIC COAST

 

The coast of Kent was again on the front line during the Napoleonic Wars. The ships of the Royal Navy patrolled the Channel and anchored on the Downs. These were the ‘Wooden Walls of England’ which protected both British merchant shipping and the British coastline. The one prize which Napoleon most desired was to invade and subdue England, the ‘nation of shopkeepers’. Coast of Conflict
