The Clock

The Clock and cast iron brackets were taken down on 25th June 09. When the Clock had been inspected it was clear that significant work needed to be done as the clock casing and importantly the brackets which hold the clock to the front wall had sustained considerable weather damage causing corrosion to all external metal parts.

Funding had been raised to get the clockwork mechanism and gearing working again and Clock Repairer Mr John Carpenter completed this work towards the end of 2009. Trustee Richard Grundy undertook the refurbishment of Clock housing and brackets so that the total cost remained within budget.

Dec 09. The work to the Clock has been completed and the Clock was replaced and is now working. Pictures below show damage to the Clock. The final six pictures show the refurbished Clock - now in place and working.

List of work

Dec 09 Update: The Clock body which is made of copper sheeting was badly corroded in places - these were cut out and replaced as necessary. The main supporting brackets were heavily corroded and key stress points were weak.

The brackets were removed, rust chipped away and key stress points were reinforced. Finally the brackets were treated with anti rust paint.

All securing bolts were replaced with new bolts and treated with anti rust paint. Double locking bolts were used to secure the Clock.

A structural engineer inspected the Clock and mountings and declared them to be stronger than original.
