Welcome...

Local people are best placed to identify and describe local character - and a Parish Plan & Design Statement should capture that input and format it into a well structured assessment of the character of the village and its setting. A Design Statement cannot change existing policies, but it can help the planners to influence the character of new developments in Sandgate.

Nov 09 -Time for the BIG Questionniare!!

The Questionnaire!! We are ready to do the BIG data capture with the Sandgate PP&DS Questionnaire. You can complete it online HERE. The report that will be produced using data captured from Sandgate residents will be used to shape Sandgates future. Your views count!!

The Folkestone Camera Club produced a great video showing Sandgate how it is now - and which is now posted on YouTube and can be seen at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcl1W5LTHIQ

Why a Design Statement?...

Once the Parish Plan project is underway it is not uncommon to find that a problem often complained about is bad or unsympathetic development. In fact our Public Meeting on Oct 08 identified that bad development is high on the list of items that Sandgate residents are not happy about. A Design Statement project can therefore be incorporated into the Parish Plan work early on as the process is similar and can easily run in parallel.

A Design Statement tells developers and planners

how to make new development fit into the existing

character of our village - it will be given to people

and developers who are preparing designs. It will

be used by development control planners in the

local authority when they give advice to

prospective developers. It will also be used

when council officers make recommendations

to the planning committee on planning applications.

To be influential our Design Statement must

be approved by the planning authority as

a Supplementary Planning Document in

the Local Development Framework.

The Parish Plan & Design Statement website will keep you up to date on progress with this important piece of work.

Notices of Public Events will be posted on these pages and if you would like to get involved you can find contact details of key people on this website too too.
