

The Sea, sun and sports:
Sandgate is a charming village on the East Kent coast between Folkestone and Hythe and borders the English Channel. The biggest, free, asset is the sea with its the associated water sports that include rowing, kite surfing, jet skiing and of course swimming. You can enjoy a stroll along the sea wall, or explore the surrounding countryside via the designated cycling and walking routes.
Literary, Military & Social History:
For those interested in history, Sandgate has links with Sir John Moore, at the Shorncliffe Barracks, with it‘s World War I training trenches and redoubt. The Barracks are now home to the famous Ghurkha regiments, There is also Beach Cottage and Stade House, the homes of HG Wells. Another notable resident of Sandgate was William Wilberforce. More information can be found in the local Library or by visiting the Sandgate Society’s archives and both venues are situated in Sandgate High Street. The Sandgate Society is based in the Old Fire Station and is open on Saturday mornings between 10.00 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. The Library is open Monday to Saturday and the opening hours can be found posted outside the Library.
Education:
There are thriving schools in the area including a primary school and girls school, and various clubs that cater for all age groups from Cubs and Brownies to the Phoenix Group for older members of the village. There is a yoga group, Tai Chi, short mat bowls and the rowing club. There is the popular annual Sandgate Sea and Food Festival that regularly attracts many varied stalls and side shows.
