In 1971 I nearly moved to Encombe House, I remember the lovely
parquet floor, the well, the green sunken bath. It was not to be - the
investor did not buy (landslides, insurance!) - it would have been a
rest home. I went back to nursing in hospital, then run a nursing
home, finally my own residential home. I retired on Castle Bay in the
late eightees.
On joining the Society, where many welcomed me, I joined the
Twinning Association - then in its infancy with usual teething
problems. An eventful few months for Sandgate, with a new parish
council who has to find its way in the maze of the community. I have
great hopes for the future and wish them well.
More recently, having obtained permission, I was able to help with
taking the girls of Folkestone School to the Bleriot College in
France. We took 49 girls one week and 50 the next. They performed
Shakespeare - what a pleasure, the girls were a delight.
We were well received by the children the headmistress, her staff.,
Mr & Mrs Segard, Mrs MC Livermore, with their usual generous
hospitality. The children mix well, the girls loved the food, made
friends with all, no personal agendas.
I hope there will be a return visit from Bleriot College, bringing
‘Moliere’ - awesome!
It was heart warming - healing. May we never forget the child in us
and listen to its voice. |
